A detour
Sound, before it is a measurement
Nothing on this page is a reading. It is a dish of shallow water driven at one steady frequency, and a synthesiser you can drag by hand — the one place on the site where a mantra is something to look at and something to move, rather than something that ends up as a number.

Sound takes a shape
A mantra isn’t only something you hear. Drive a shallow film of water at one steady frequency and the surface stops churning and sets into a fixed figure of ridges and still points. This is that figure: the mantra’s own standing wave.

Scroll, and the storm settles into the figure
The figure in the dish illustrates something real: sound has form. What settles you is plainer than that, and that is the whole of the claim.
What sound does, and what it does notHear it yourself
Drag the depth, hear the storm give way
Move the depth control by hand and the storm (āhata) gives way to the mantra (anāhata). You are driving depth yourself here; in a real sitting the live EEG reading moves it.
What sound actually does runs through the nervous system rather than through the water in your cells. That argument is set out here.

Where the argument is
The figure in the dish is real and it is not evidence for anything Delve measures. A mantra is not read off the water, and the depth control above is driven by your hand rather than by an EEG. In a sitting that same depth comes from the live reading — and how a reading is reached is the part of this project that can actually be checked.
Delve is a research and education tool. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, or monitor any condition. Mental-state labels are estimates from EEG signal analysis, not clinical assessments, and their accuracy varies with the individual, the session and electrode contact.
