The science
Checkable, and willing to say it doesn’t know
Two things make a measurement worth trusting: you can verify how it was computed, and it tells you when the evidence is thin. Delve’s signal processing is tested against an independent reference implementation, line for line, and the classifier above it returns indeterminate rather than a state it cannot defend.

Delve’s first classifier had a defect you could state in one line: the further an epoch sat from anything it recognised, the more confident it became. That was not a tuning accident. It was what the arithmetic did, and it took a different shape of model to fix.

Refusal
Why we say indeterminate
Two things stop an epoch before it is given a state, and the number behind the second was not chosen by anyone. It falls out of the five weights the scorer already had, and it commits Delve in advance to refusing at most one genuine reading in a thousand.

Kṣipta from the jaw
Delve used to print a flag that read “Gamma Surge — peak insight”. On one real sitting it fired on more than half the epochs. It was a jaw-tension detector wearing the language of enlightenment, and it has been removed.

Validation
Checked by something we didn’t write
Two of Delve’s checks are worth more than the rest, because Delve owns neither side of them: a reference implementation that three ports have to reproduce exactly, and a minute of resting EEG recorded by strangers in 2009, where the right answer was known before anyone looked.

A mantra isn’t only something you hear. Drive a shallow film of water at one steady frequency and the surface stops churning and sets into a fixed figure of ridges and still points. This is that figure: the mantra’s own standing wave.

Delve holds a vocabulary of fourteen practices. Choosing one is a tap beside the start button. The practice carries the rhythm; the band spends the sitting reading the state, the pulse, and how still you sat.
